Gas Prices Causing Financial Hardship for Many

The average cost for a gallon of gas is nearly $4, up more than a dollar from a year ago. A new USA TODAY/Gallup poll says that one in seven Americans are experiencing a financial hardship thanks to high gas prices. More than half of those surveyed say they have had to make major changes to their budgets and habits because of the cost of fuel. Those changes include cutting back on vacations and taking shorter driving trips. USA TODAY says that one in five feel that their standard of living is jeopardized because of the impact from the pump.

Amazingly, seven states have seen gas prices surpass July 2008 records of $4.11  a gallon. And the poll found that many people are expecting to see prices go even higher. Read full article…


Protestors Blast Bank of America Foreclosures

Some protestors came out to Bank of America’s annual meeting in Charlotte this week. Outside their headquarters several people held signs and shared their foreclosure stories, according to the Associated Press. Shareholders had the chance to confront Bank of America’s CEO Brian Moynihan about mortgages issues and bankruptcy filings.

Toni Braxton Opens Up About Bankruptcy

You may think someone with a household name who has sold millions of records has it made– but not Grammy-winning singer Toni Braxton. She’s filing for bankruptcy a second time and currently starring in the reality TV show “Braxton Family Values” that follows the singer and her family. She told TV Guide that her royalties from her first two albums totaled less than $2,000.

Brits Rack Up Debt During Royal Wedding Festivities

The Royal Wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William is costing the Queen a pretty penny– and the taxpayers of England. But some officials warn consumers not to overspend, just because they get carried away in the romance of the fairytale wedding. A new survey done by Co-operative Financial Services discovered that the average British household plans to spend roughly $400 on the event.

Some of that spending could end up on credit cards.
